URGENT: Kelly is going on Maternity leave very shortly, and has been given the job of developing an N5 course for Media Studies. Here at Fraserburgh, we do Int1, but that's as far as we go. Could anyone send examples of Int2 work, NABS, class work, notes, texts - literally ANYTHING - to Kelly to help her with this mammoth task?

QUESTION: Enhancing Media provision in schools
Hi all. Any ideas of ways we can convince more English teachers to embrace media texts? What can be done to ensure all pupils experience Media Studies in some form? (Steven)
Response #1: I do use film and multi modal texts in English, mainly to support the study of 'traditional' written texts or as a stimulus for writing or discussion. I am a little afraid to try a folio R3 on a film text at S Grade because I feel I don't have the expertise to teach a critical essay correctly for it to be viewed as a media study. However, your excellent series of powerpoints on the key concepts of media studies have been very useful and I would recommend folk look at them if they need a wee training on the subject - they are detailed on the Dunblane Resources page. Response#2: Liz, I was terrifed about creating a unit for an R3 at SG - and I have to say that Kelly was very helpful in introducing me to the entire process. I try to teach The Corpse Bride each year to my Juniors - that, or Labryinth. The Burton Film works more successfully. I've also created a character study for Tim Burton's 9, which worked relatively well with a lower ability class. I do stick with what I know - Dave has been really kind at helping me and sharing resources for Junors - but I do feel nervous about letting myself loose with new texts. I have a unit on Jaws (based around the Teachit one) with all the teacher's notes and anotations for SG - which I feel went really well. Kelly had a look at some of the notes, essays generated by the unit, and my own resources and approved, which is good as my Go-To person!
