Course Documents
The Media Studies course at Dunblane High School is offered at Int2 and Higher level. The general course outline is below, although the types of texts studied varies (I think this year I am going to look at a documentary for non-fiction instead of advertising).
The following powerpoints are used at Dunblane High School for the first 6 weeks of the course, to introduce each of the key concepts. The powerpoint files contain notes, activities and sample analysis tasks. At the end of the 6 weeks, pupils complete the key concepts test to test their knowledge and understanding.
In addition, when completed with these, and viewing the film a couple of times, pupils are put into groups and given one concept (Categories, Language, Narrative, Representation, Audience or Institutions) to research in relation to the film. Each group make a presentation to the rest of the class using powerpoint, film, posters, etc. It works well :)
